Michele Di Gregorio struggled during Juventus’ 2-1 loss against Inter Milan in a recent friendly match, conceding two goals that he could arguably have saved. The goalkeeper made several fine saves during the game and performed well in other moments, but the goals he conceded could have been avoided and once again highlighted why Juventus are considering adding another goalkeeper to their squad this summer.

Di Gregorio joined Juventus from Monza as one of the finest goalkeepers in Italian football, and there were high expectations that he would continue to improve after moving to Turin. However, it remains difficult to determine whether he has developed as expected, with his performances continuing to be inconsistent.

Di Gregorio Faces Competition

The goalkeeper has shown that he can produce top-class performances, but he can also make costly mistakes only minutes later. That inconsistency has become a concern for Juventus, who need greater reliability in goal if they are to compete at the highest level.

At present, Di Gregorio shares the number one role with Mattia Perin, partly because of concerns over his reliability. Luciano Spalletti is therefore pushing for the club to sign another goalkeeper, which could increase competition for the position and provide Juventus with another dependable option.

The need for another goalkeeper has become more apparent following Di Gregorio’s performance against Inter Milan. Although his mistakes were costly, Spalletti did not place the blame entirely on his goalkeeper.

Spalletti Defends Goalkeeper

Despite Juventus’ efforts to sign another goalkeeper, Spalletti defended Di Gregorio’s performance against Inter Milan. The manager highlighted the positive aspects of his display and suggested that the goalkeeper was unfortunate to concede the second goal.

The manager said via Tuttosport:

“Di Gregorio made some commendable saves in the first half, then he was unlucky on the second goal.”

Spalletti’s comments provide some support for Di Gregorio at a time when his position appears to be under greater scrutiny. While the goalkeeper must improve his consistency, Juventus will also need to decide whether signing another player in the position is necessary.

For now, Di Gregorio remains an important part of the squad, but his performances will continue to be closely monitored as Juventus prepare for the new season.
