Luciano Vulcano named AC Monza youth head coach after Sunderland exit | OneFootball

Luciano Vulcano has taken charge of AC Monza’s youth side, his first post since leaving Sunderland earlier this year.

He joined Régis Le Bris as assistant head coach last summer, then left by mutual consent after the staff could not find the right fit within the structure, according to Sunderland Echo.

AC Monza return to Serie A next season after promotion, and the youth role hands Vulcano his first experience as a head coach. The Italian also has ambitions to lead a senior side in time.

This week he reflected on Wearside, calling the spell unforgettable, thanking the club and saying he hopes to return one day to work again in the country and its league.

Sunderland initially chose not to replace him but have now added former Southampton and Portugal centre back José Fonte to the coaching staff. He will start on Monday before the club’s pre-season tour of the US, in his first coaching role since retiring.

Director of football Florent Ghisolfi said Fonte brings top-level experience, energy and leadership, and that those qualities will add value as the club looks to push forward in the Premier League and in Europe.

Fonte will work with Le Bris alongside Michael Proctor, Alessandro Barcherini, James Brayne for set pieces, Neil Cutler for goalkeepers and Isidre Ramón Madir as chief analyst.
