Ludovic Blas has re-emerged for Rennes under Franck Haise, earning warm applause when withdrawn on 85 minutes in the 2-1 win over Angers.
He teed up Mahdi Camara for the opener on 12 minutes, won seven of 11 duels and covered the most high-intensity running, and, according to L'Équipe, is now enjoying more minutes under Haise after longer spells on the bench with Habib Beye.
Haise said Blas’s technique, allied to hard running including 75‑metre recoveries, can make him a top player, and stressed it is on him to sustain it, adding he has the capacity and is on a very good path.
Blas has started the past four league matches, initially stepping in when Sebastian Szymanski was not fully fit to start against Lille on 15 March, a 1-2 defeat. With Arnaud Nordin missing the last two games, Blas said his legs and rhythm are returning and that he must repay the coach’s trust.
He also struck Rennes’ first goal at Brest in the 4-3 win on 4 April, then ceded two penalties to the scorer Estéban Lepaul. It follows a frustrating campaign with limited trust under Beye.
Signed from Nantes in summer 2023 for €15 million under Bruno Genesio, he sought a step up after nearly joining Lille in 2022 following two seasons of 10 or more goals. Rennes can dream of the Champions League with five games left, while his deal runs to 2027 with no extension yet, leaving his summer future open.
