Luighi, a Palmeiras academy forward on loan at New York City FC, has been voted the club’s player of the month for September, his second consecutive award after August. According to Nosso Palestra, his form is fuelling anticipation at Palmeiras that a permanent move could follow when the loan ends.

In September he struck against New England Revolution on 10 September, then scored again in a 2-0 away win at Real Salt Lake.

He has 12 appearances for New York City in 2026, with four goals in 526 minutes. In MLS he has played nine times, starting six, scoring four and providing no assists. His goals have come against Philadelphia Union, FC Cincinnati, New England and Real Salt Lake.

Palmeiras agreed the loan in July, running to the end of 2026, for a US$ 300,000 fee, about R$ 1.5 million at the time, with New York City covering his wages. The deal includes a US$ 6 million purchase option, around R$ 30 million, and Palmeiras would keep 20% of his economic rights for any future sale. If exercised, the option would take direct revenue to about US$ 6.3 million including the loan fee.

Before leaving, Luighi was contracted to Palmeiras until December 2029. A 2024 first-team debutant, he departed with 45 games and five goals, and in 2026 had played 18 times and scored two before losing minutes and seeking a move to the United States.
