Grêmio are set to field a new-look midfield against Bragantino on Sunday in the Brasileirão, with injuries to Nardoni and Dodi forcing Luís Castro to rethink his options.
According to Globo.com, Noriega remains the first-choice holding midfielder, although he can also slot into defence. Villasanti should return after being rested for the Atlético-MG match at Arena MRV last Sunday, and he has trained normally this week.
The current preference for the third spot is Krovinovic, who debuted in the second half against Atlético-MG. Wearing the new No 10 shirt, he is tasked with adding creativity while helping on the left side. Gabriel Mec is an alternative.
Recent signing Danilo Barbosa is behind in the queue for now. He is registered and could debut, but he has not played since 23 May, his last outing for Al-Ula in Saudi Arabia’s second division. He is also an option at centre-back.
Castro also flagged changes after the 3-0 loss to Atlético, a match he began with a trio of ball-winners in Noriega, Dodi and Nardoni. The first-half display disappointed, and the team finished with two attacking midfielders together, Krovinovic and Mec, which is not expected to be repeated.
Grêmio resume training on Friday at CT Luiz Carvalho. The match with Bragantino is on Sunday at 16:00 at Cícero de Souza Marques in Bragança Paulista, part of the 24th round of the Brasileirão.
