Spain manager Luis Enrique has given his thoughts on his side's stalemate with Germany in the World Cup, expressing mixed feelings with the result.

The Group E clash was closely contested with the stakes high. Spain dominated possession and had their tails up after a rampant start to their campaign in Qatar, but had met their match in a resurgent Germany outfit.

After almost falling behind in the first half, Spain took the lead after an hour through substitute Alvaro Morata. They continued to dominate Germany, but a late string of substitutes brought Hansi Flick's side back into control.

Just like Morata, it was Germany's substitute striker Niclas Fullkrug who fired them back level with seven minutes to play, snatching them a point that could be crucial to their hopes of reaching the round of 16.

Speaking after the game to press, Enrique admitted: "It's a strange feeling when you have the chance to win the game against Germany and you lose it in the last few minutes."

But, despite being conflicted about the result and suggesting his side should've seen out the victory, he remained positive: "You have to think that we are in the lead after two (match)days."

A point sees La Roja extend their lead atop of Group E to four points, while Germany get the first of their campaign.

Spain can now help Germany to get out of the group by beating Japan on Thursday.
