Rojiblancos representing the Mexican National Team continue to play starring roles at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and ahead of the Round of 32, Luis Romo has received recognition that confirms the outstanding level he has displayed with El Tri.
The CIES Football Observatory, one of the world’s leading soccer statistical analysis centers based in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, published a study using Impect data that ranks the Guadalajara midfielder as the World Cup leader in ground duels won per 90 minutes among all midfielders still competing in the tournament.
With an average of 7.65 ground duels won per 90 minutes, Romo tops the rankings ahead of Pedro Vite of Ecuador (7.12) and Brazil’s Bruno Guimarães (6.59) and Casemiro (5.27), three midfielders who have also stood out throughout the tournament.
That dominance in ball recovery and one-on-one battles has become one of the Rojiblanco’s greatest strengths at a World Cup where he has also contributed offensively. So far, Luis Romo has logged 164 minutes of action, along with one goal and one assist after starting against South Korea and Czechia.
The midfielder’s ability to win individual battles, recover possession, and provide balance has been fundamental to the success of the Mexican National Team, which has consistently relied on Chivas players as key contributors throughout the World Cup.
Once again, the Rojiblancos representing Mexico have risen to the occasion on soccer’s biggest stage, and Luis Romohas proven his value not only with goals and assists, but also by establishing himself as the World Cup’s most dominant midfielder when it comes to ground duels.
