On Thursday, FIFA said the 2030 World Cup final has not already been awarded to Morocco, rejecting a claim to that effect.

The previous evening, Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, had stated that his country would host the final.

The tournament will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, with the first three matches staged in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. The stadium for the showpiece has not yet been selected.

FIFA had earlier dismissed reports in the British press that Gianni Infantino had promised Morocco the final in return for political backing ahead of his re-election campaign next year.

A decision on the final venue will be made in due course.
