Luis Suárez is pursuing an unpaid sum from Grêmio at the CNRD, linked to his early contract termination at the end of 2023. The amount has not been disclosed.
According to Globo.com, club president Odorico Roman discussed the case during Tuesday night’s Deliberative Council meeting, which was closed to the media.
The debt relates to image rights and is said to have arisen from a calculation error made at the time of the termination. Grêmio lost in the first instance at the CNRD.
The claim is not included in the creditors’ payment plan filed with the CNRD because the case has not reached a final ruling. Roman stressed this was not a criticism of Suárez, and the discussion came amid a review of the club’s finances.
The striker signalled in July 2023 his wish to end the deal a year early, then left at the end of that year after Grêmio finished Brasileirão runners-up. His contract had been due to run until the end of 2024. Suárez, 39, now plays for Inter Miami in the United States.
