Globo.com notes the trip rekindles memories for supporters.

The last visit, in July 1999, was a friendly against a city select at the same ground. It marked Luizão’s debut alongside idols Edílson Capetinha and Marcelinho Carioca. Corinthians won 6-0, with goals from Marcelinho, Edílson, Luizão, Luiz Mário, Dinei and Fernando Baiano.

After that match, Luizão said he hoped it would be the start of a happy Corinthians career. He went on to score 76 goals in 109 games and lift four trophies, Paulista, Brasileiro, Rio-São Paulo and Mundial.

This will be the fourth official meeting between Velo Clube and Corinthians, plus a friendly. Corinthians beat Velo 2-0 at the Benitão in 1975, then in the 1979 Paulistão won 3-0 at the Pacaembu before a goalless draw back in Rio Claro.

Velo have never beaten Corinthians. Their first goal in the fixture came only last year, a 2-1 defeat at the Neo Química Arena in the Paulistão.
