Darts star and Leeds United fan Luke Humphries said he was disappointed to see only one player added in January.
“I think Sunderland's recruitment has been absolutely incredible, that's part and parcel of why they are where they are in the league,” Humphries said. “I've seen it on transfer deadline day, one goes then 'bang' they get one straight back in, no messing around.” He told The Northern Echo while preparing to defend his Premier League Darts title in Newcastle.
“That's the only part that's hard as a Leeds fan, because we're crying out for certain players in certain positions and nothing's being done and that's frustrating for us fans. I'm disappointed as a Leeds fan not to have added a few extra players, but what can you do?”
Leeds filled a key hole by signing Brighton’s Facundo Buonanotte on loan, a right wing or No.10 pursued in the summer. The 21-year-old cut short a season-long Chelsea move to complete the switch, while a near £40 million offer for Jorgen Strand Larsen was beaten by Crystal Palace, who paid £48 million.
No alternative arrived to cover Dominic Calvert-Lewin. With Jack Harrison loaned to Fiorentina, mooted left wing-back, goalkeeper and central defensive cover did not materialise, amid uncertainty over Lucas Perri or Karl Darlow as No. 1.
In his first media session since the window closed, Daniel Farke argued the squad has not been weakened and is tracking to survive on current form. He stressed squad harmony and said he can be picky with additions, noting that even top players may not fit profiles or accept back-up roles.
