Luke O'Nien addressed Sunderland fans after the Premier League win over Tottenham, praising momentum under Régis Le Bris as the Black Cats stay in the European hunt.

"Those are examples of how I was as a human being then, then fast forward seven or eight years, and I have had to dig deep on one of the toughest days, in one of the toughest environments, to turn it around when really needed. As human beings, we make mistakes, and it is important we face them head-on, put your ego aside and use them as learnings to keep moving forward." The interview was with BBC Radio Newcastle.

Spurs arrived on Wearside under new head coach Roberto De Zerbi, yet their winless league run stretched on. Sunderland were the sharper side and won when Nordi Mukiele’s long-range strike deflected off Micky van de Ven, wrong-footing Antonin Kinsky.

It was the third victory in games O'Nien has started, following wins over Leeds United and Newcastle United. Sunderland have conceded only one goal in that sequence, and O'Nien accepted responsibility for the strike against Newcastle.

Afterwards he called it an enjoyable afternoon at the Stadium of Light and said the team keep building together.
