Luton have had two offers for the Aberdeen player rejected.
Luton Town have had two offers for Aberdeen winger Shayden Morris rejected by the Scottish Premiership side, according to reports.
Matt Bloomfield's side has taken quite a hit in the attacking department since they were relegated to League One.
Carlton Morris is the big loss, with the experienced number nine now with John Eustace at Derby County. They are also now without a major creative threat in Thelo Aasgaard, who joined Rangers for a reported £3.5 million.
Before Bloomfield arrived at Kenilworth Road to try and rescue them from the drop, he led one of the most fun attacking teams in League One. His Wycombe Wanderers side were free-flowing and challenging clubs like Birmingham City and Wrexham, who had much bigger budgets than they did, for the top spots in the third tier.
Luton will look to get themselves in a similar position next season, and they have eyed Aberdeen's 23-year-old winger Morris as someone who could help them achieve that.
Despite only starting 11 games in the Scottish top flight last term, Morris racked up nine direct goal contributions, and when taking cup competitions into account, the ex-Fleetwood Town attacker scored five times and assisted a further 13 goals.
The Englishman has been with his current club for close to three years now, after they bought the Englishman from the aforementioned Cod Army for an undisclosed fee.
According to Sky Sports, Luton have submitted two offers for Morris to Aberdeen, but both have been rejected. The latter of the two proposals was reported to be for £600,000 plus add-ons - the player is into the final year of his deal at Pittodrie.
A right-sided winger by nature, Morris would provide good cover for Luton in one of their positions of strength. Bloomfield already has January signing Isaiah Jones, among others, to deploy on that flank of his attack.
Aside from the move for the Aberdeen man, Luton have been taking other steps to make up for those that they have lost in forward areas.
Nahki Wells has committed his future to Kenilworth Road after leaving Bristol City as a free agent. The Bermuda international hit double-digit goals last time out in the Championship, helping to steer the Robins to a top-six finish.
There is certainly potential there within the 23-year-old that Luton are after.
His performances in limited minutes for Aberdeen show that he could be an effective option if he was given more of an opportunity. His current club might want to be the ones to hand him those extra minutes, though, off the back of last season.
Would Morris be someone that would undoubtedly come in and start for the Hatters? Probably not. Last season was his first for the Scottish side in which he registered either a league goal or an assist.
That worry about the previous campaign potentially just being a purple patch has the potential to put Town off submitting an improved offer for Morris, but if Bloomfield is going to play with wingers, then there's definitely a need for more depth.
