A big part of achieving this goal will be how they utilise the transfer window and so far they have been busy with a number of deals both ways.

Despite this, the Hatters still have a lot of business to be concluded before the window shuts on August 31st and you doubt that Rob Edwards is content with his current squad.

With this in mind, we have rounded up the latest transfer news regarding the club below.

Bolton Wanderers plotting move for Luton forward

The most immediate news that is coming out of Kenilworth Road, is that Luton's striker John McAtee is a target for Bolton Wanderers this window.

The 24-year-old signed for Luton from Grimsby in 2022, but is still yet to feature for the Bedfordshire club, due to spending the last two seasons away from the club on loan.

Despite this, he had a really successful year at Barnsley last campaign where he netted 15 and assisted five in all competitions.

Many would argue this should be enough to earn him a chance at Luton, but according to reports, Rob Edwards has yet to give him any assurances regarding playing time at the club.

This could be enough to tilt the transfer in the Trotters' favour then, with McAtee almost certainly looking for starts based on his exploits across the last three seasons.

Concern for Luton in the race for Jesurun Rak-Sakyi

The chase for Crystal Palace's Jesurun Rak-Sakyi continues with Luton one of a number of clubs who will be looking to take him on loan for next season.

Last week it was reported that the young winger was beginning talks with a number of Championship clubs, including the Hatters. Following these discussions, it is believed that Palace and Rak-Sakyi will make a decision as to what the best option is for his future.

Edwards will undoubtedly hope that Palace opt for his side, but all these plans may be scuppered by a recent interview with Hull City chairman Tan Kesler. Speaking to Hull Live, he said: “We are interested in Rak-Sakyi and so are like 15 other Championship clubs.

“We made the best offer. Palace feel very comfortable with him playing for us, but I think at the moment he’s getting interest from another Premier League club.

“If he doesn’t go somewhere in the Premier League permanently, I’m confident that I would like to see him with us, and we will try to do everything to bring him in. We’ve spoken withthe agent, we’ve spoken with the player, and we’re looking to have another conversation with the player.”

This news seems like a double blow for Luton, as if he doesn't sign for the attractive Premier League side, then the Tigers seem like they're ready to pounce and secure his signature.

Time will tell, but right now it looks unlikely that the former Charlton Athletic man will be heading to Kenilworth Road.

The race to sign Teden Mengi

Another possible departure is Teden Mengi, who has been highlighted by Ligue 1 side Nice as a replacement for their seemingly departing Jean-Clair Todibo.

That’s according to a report from Foot Mercato, who claim the French top-flight outfit are eying up the defender.

Despite falling into the second-tier once again, Mengi was impressive last season for Luton as he featured 30 times for the Hatters throughout the campaign.

With Fulham and Crystal Palace also interested parties, it is understood that in order to sign the defender they will have to pay somewhere in the region of €12-14 million.

This money would prove a significant boost for Luton, allowing them to reinvest in the team as they aim to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

Of course, losing Mengi would be a blow, but having signed him for a nominal fee last year, it would be a smart deal to secure a decent sum of money for the defender this summer.

Luton's rivals Watford are interested in Joe Taylor

Another concern for Luton will be the increasing interest being shown by Watford in their blossoming striker, Joe Taylor.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Colchester United and Lincoln City. During these spells, he thoroughly impressed, being a firm reason behind the up-turn in the form of the Imps post-January.

A remarkable pressing ability, he harasses the back-line persistently in a bid to turn over possession. Not only this, but he has begun to score goals, netting 21 in League Two and One last season.

However, the concern for Luton is that Watford, among several other Championship clubs, are interested in signing the striker permanently, as per Football Insider.

Whilst the Hatters' stance is unclear, it is believed that Taylor only has a year remaining on his contract, so the striker may be available at a cut-price fee.

Having already shown his ability to step up a level last season, it would seem a poor move on behalf of Luton. Taylor would offer something very different to that of Carlton Morris or Elijah Adebayo, and his goal record speaks for itself.
