Lyon: 11 months after his serious injury, Ernest Nuamah nears return
Ernest Nuamah can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel after 11 months away from the pitch. Sidelined by a severe knee injury in April 2025, the Ghanaian winger for Olympique Lyonnais could soon make his competitive comeback. This prospect is reviving hope not only for Lyon, but also for the Ghana national team, with major fixtures looming in the coming months.
Ernest Nuamah’s last appearance dates back to April 5, 2025. On that day, during a Ligue 1 clash against LOSC, the Ghana international was forced off after just seven minutes, leaving his teammates prematurely after suffering a blow to his left knee.
Medical examinations revealed a torn anterior cruciate ligament—a devastating injury that immediately ruled him out for the rest of the season. His absence, now stretching to eleven months, has been painfully felt.
A glaring absence for Lyon and Ghana
The 21-year-old winger has been sorely missed in Lyon’s attacking setup. His unavailability forced the Lyon coaching staff to rethink their plans on the right flank during a season marked by constant adjustments.
On the international stage, his absence was just as significant. The Black Stars had to manage without one of their most promising talents. While Ghana managed to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup, Ernest Nuamah was unable to take part in the decisive qualifiers or contribute to the campaign that led to their continental qualification.
A strategic return before June
According to sources close to Groupama Stadium, the Ghanaian winger is now on the verge of returning to competitive action. After months of rehabilitation and gradual physical work, he is entering the final stage of his recovery.
A comeback in the coming weeks would be fantastic news for Ghana, who face a crucial test in June as they ramp up preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Having Ernest Nuamah back at full strength would give manager Otto Addo a major boost in attacking options.
