L’Équipe are reporting that Olympique Lyonnais have failed in an attempt to sign Sevilla midfielder Fernando (35) on loan until the end of the season. The player was keen on the switch, but his club are counting on him until the end of the season.

According to the French publication, Les Gones made their approach for the Brazilian midfielder last night. Whilst Laurent Blanc’s side quickly managed to convince Fernando about the move, the club itself quickly blocked the transfer.

Sevilla’s manager Jorge Sampaoli, as well as sporting director Monchi both want to keep the former Porto and Manchester City defensive midfielder for the second half of the season. Lyon continue to search for a number 6.

Tiémoué Bakayko, currently on loan at AC Milan from Chelsea, is an option being explored, but that deal seems complicated due to the Premier League club’s demands from their Italian counterparts. Chelsea want compensation for the severance of the loan, something that AC Milan are unwilling to pay.
