Lyon will be without their Brazilian winger Jeffinho (23) for three weeks, according to a report from Le Progrès. Lyon’s transfer window appears to be one to forget, given some of their recruits won’t be able to provide them a quick fix in their struggling season. Olympique Lyonnais were tenth in the Ligue 1 standings before today’s games and are set to miss European qualification for a third season in a row.
Jeffinho reportedly told Lyon he was nearing the end of an ankle injury, but according to Le Progrès, the former Botafogo player will miss three weeks of action with his new club. OL head coach Laurent Blanc said yesterday that Jeffinho’s absence will be short-term. Still, he is set to miss four games with Olympique Lyonnais, which is not ideal in order to develop an understanding with his new teammates. The 23-year-old was therefore absent for Lyon’s away game today at Troyes and will miss their Coupe de France last 16 tie against Lille on Wednesday. The winger is also expected to miss a high-stakes Ligue 1 home encounter against Lens and another Ligue 1 game at Auxerre.
