According to Le Progres, France’s refereeing department has confirmed that awarding Marseille’s 3-2 winner against Lyon on Sunday was correct.
The body released its review of key Ligue 1 incidents from matchday 24 on Tuesday evening, and it featured the dramatic OM v OL finish in added time.
Lyon, including coach Paulo Fonseca, had complained of a foul on Tyler Morton at the start of the move for the third goal. Sporting director Mathieu Louis-Jean was shown a red card after the match.
The sequence outlined in the debrief said Lyon no 23 played a pass to no 9, continued his run and made contact with Marseille no 33. The referee let play continue, Marseille regained the ball and scored. VAR reviewed the entire phase and upheld the decision.
The department judged that Marseille no 33 committed no Law 12 offence, remaining stable and not moving deliberately into his opponent’s path. It concluded the contact was solely initiated by the Lyon player’s run, so the on-field decision complied with the Laws of the Game and the goal should stand.
