The DNCG appeal submitted by Olympique Lyonnais is set to be examined next week Thursday, 10th July, sources have confirmed to L’Équipe. The financially troubled club is seeking to overturn a shock relegation to Ligue 2, handed down last month by French football’s financial watchdog.
Just a week ago, the DNCG (Direction Nationale du Contrôle de Gestion) officially confirmed Lyon’s demotion following an earlier warning issued on 15 November 2024. The decision, made by the body affiliated with the LFP cited continued concerns over OL’s financial guarantees.
New club president Michele Kang, who took control just this week, has been tasked with leading the appeal in front of the DNCG arm affiliated with the French Football Federation (FFF).
The stakes are enormous. Should Lyon succeed in their appeal and retain their Ligue 1 status, they will also be eligible to compete in the UEFA Europa League during the 2025–26 season. However, if the DNCG’s ruling is upheld, OL will remain in Ligue 2 and be barred from European competition for the coming campaign.GFFN | George Boxall
