Alexis Mac Allister scored the winner as Liverpool came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 at Anfield in their opening Champions League game.

Marcos Llorente continued his remarkable scoring record at Anfield by putting Diego Simeone’s side ahead after 17 minutes.

Liverpool responded before the break when Ronald Araujo helped the ball into the path of Dominik Szoboszlai to finish.

The turnaround was completed just five minutes into the second half. Mac Allister, who recently revealed his disappointment at Liverpool’s decision not to offer him a new contract, struck powerfully from 20 yards to put the Reds ahead.

Bradley Barcola passed up a big opportunity to extend Liverpool’s advantage before being forced off with an injury on just his second appearance for the club.
