Madonna says the Celta Vigo shirt she wore at Balaidos in 1990 is in her archives, after the club appealed for help to find it.
According to Sunderland Echo, club president Marian Mourino Terrazo issued an open letter earlier this week, calling the garment a symbol of Celta’s emotional heritage.
Madonna, 67, whose full name is Madonna Ciccone, said in a post on X: "This shirt is hanging in my archives. I am wearing and representing your team in spirit".
The president of the Galician club, currently sixth in Spain’s top division, asked the singer for help and recalled Madonna’s show at Balaidos on 29 July 1990, when she wore the sky blue shirt.
She wrote that the memory endures among supporters and that the photo of Madonna in Celta colours has become part of the club’s story beyond the pitch, strengthening over time as they hope to recover the original shirt.
Before Friday’s home match against Real Madrid, Celta played concert footage at Balaidos and staged a Like A Prayer performance with a band, dancers and singers.
Mourino Terrazo ended by inviting Madonna to get in touch by private message if she knows the shirt’s whereabouts or wishes to join the search.
Guinness World Records lists Madonna as the bestselling female artist as of 2023, with 13 UK number one singles and 12 number one albums, and hits including Like A Virgin, Holiday and Into The Groove.
