Pablo Maffeo landed at Manises in the early hours to complete a move to Valencia on loan from Olympiacos, and signalled he wants to stay. He is due to sign in the coming hours.

According to AS, the deal runs to the end of the season with a three million euros option to buy, strengthening right-back. Despite the Arnau Martínez option remaining open, Valencia chose to activate the former Mallorca defender’s arrival.

Given his late arrival and the proximity of Saturday’s game against Celta, inclusion in the squad appears unlikely.

Maffeo said the move had been in the works for some time, that before joining Olympiacos it was already a possibility that suited him, and that he wants to remain at Valencia. He added he is available for the manager and to help the team.

He will undergo a medical shortly then sign terms to keep him at Mestalla until season’s end. His displays will guide any decision on his future after he joined the Greek club this summer following Mallorca’s relegation.

At 29, with more than 200 Primera División matches, he offers reliability in a role that has troubled Valencia this window. With him in, and while developments with Arnau are awaited, Carlos Corberán finally has a specialist right-back, easing but not ending the need to add a second.
