Valencia have revived a move for Pablo Maffeo and are working to finalise a season-long loan with a non-obligatory buy option of around three million euros tonight. The right-back could feature on Saturday if talks do not stall.
AS reports that the deal is at an advanced stage, with paperwork being exchanged to close it.
If nothing changes, Maffeo could arrive as soon as Wednesday, or by Thursday at the latest, to be available to Carlos Corberán for Celta Vigo at Mestalla.
Valencia’s right flank was left short after Dimitri Foulquier’s injury and the non-renewal of Thierry Rendall. A separate pursuit of Arnau Martínez stalled on Tuesday as Fulham interest grew, and CEO Ron Gourlay kept the offer at six million plus bonuses and a sell-on while Girona waited to see if the clause would be met.
Despite joining Olympiacos this summer, the 29-year-old former Spain under-21 has not settled in Athens, and with his daughter in Valencia he has been keen on a LaLiga return with Valencia his preference.
Olympiacos are already seeking a right-back to cover the likely vacancy. They signed Maffeo for two and a half million euros and have been open to a departure provided they can recoup that investment in future.
