Maffeo relishing reunion with Javier Aguirre at Valencia | OneFootball

Javier Aguirre has found two familiar faces on taking charge at Valencia, Pablo Maffeo and José Copete. According to AS, both thrived under him at Mallorca, and his arrival at Mestalla is a timely boost.

Maffeo, signed this summer, is among the most pleased with the Mexican’s appointment. Aguirre is the coach who has managed him most, 70 matches, all with Mallorca.

Across those games the full-back produced three goals and nine assists. He was used both as a right-back and a wing-back. He even filled in at left-back when options were short.

So far this season he has featured regularly, starting four of six appearances across seven rounds for 330 minutes. He did not quite convince under Corberán, then played almost entirely under Óscar Sánchez in the last two games.

Copete also recalls Aguirre fondly. The centre-back remains sidelined, with no return date after complications from his latest injury.

Under the Mexican he made 58 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. As with Maffeo, Aguirre is the manager who has overseen him most in his professional career.
