Lavai has been plagued by injury since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth up to £58m.

The 22-year-old has made just 30 appearances for the Blues and is yet to complete a full 90 minutes for the club.

Romeo Lavia nearing end of his rehab plan

Lavia has made just seven appearances this season, and has been sidelined since November after picking up an injury in the Champions League clash with Qarabag.

It was initially expected Lavia would be out for at least month, but it’s now been over three, although it appears his return is getting closer.

Liam Rosenior has confirmed Lavia is back in training, and Mail Sport have reported the Belgian is nearing the end of what’s been described as a detailed rehab plan.

It’s also believed Lavia has been using state of the art virtual reality technology to help improve his game, especially when it comes to scanning in midfield.

Chelsea looking for new midfielder in the summer

Despite Lavia closing in on a return to action it’s believed Chelsea have made signing another midfielder a priority this summer.

The Blues reportedly want to ease the burden on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, and given the injury issues of Lavia and Dario Essugo this season they’ve been unable to do that.

Chelsea have been linked with both Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton, although they are expected to face fierce competition from other clubs.

If Lavia can stay fit it would massively help Chelsea out, and it’s unclear if the Blues are looking for a starting level player or someone to perform a squad role.
