Sky Germany reports that Mainz are closing in on a permanent deal for Stefan Posch, with a fee of around €four million agreed with Como.
The Austrian impressed across 16 Bundesliga outings on loan last season, which appears to have paved the way for a return.
Como have added Borussia Dortmund's Yan Couto on a year-long loan, which means they no longer require the Judenburg-born defender.
Posch, head coach Urs Fischer and the club’s hierarchy were aligned in wanting him to continue at Mainz.
Talks were opened at the start of August after Posch said he wanted to stay in Germany, with Mainz ready to stretch their finances to keep the 29-year-old.
He is undergoing a medical and will sign his contract if he passes successfully.
