CAN 2025: Senegal deprived of Ilay Camara just five days before kickoff

The Senegal national team will have to do without Ilay Camara for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. The news was officially confirmed by the Senegalese Football Federation.
At just 22 years old and hailing from Boheiden, the midfielder suffered an injury during a Belgian league match between Anderlecht and K Saint-Trond VV, played on Saturday, December 13, 2025. After picking up a muscle injury, he was unable to continue preparations with the Lions of Teranga.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the FSF provided further details on the nature of the injury.
The statement specifically reads:
The Senegalese Football Federation informs the public that player Ilay Camara was injured at his club on Sunday, December 14, 2025, during the match between Anderlecht and Saint-Trond.An MRI performed today in Dakar revealed a grade II muscle lesion in his right hamstring. Consequently, the player is officially ruled out for the Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.The Senegalese Football Federation wishes him a speedy recovery.
A former Standard Liège player, Ilay Camara will now miss a major date with the Senegalese Lions, just a handful of days before the start of the continental showdown.
