Tonda Eckert has overseen three wins in a row as interim Southampton manager
Fabrizio Romano has claimed that there are internal discussions going on at Southampton regarding Tonda Eckert becoming the new permanent manager.
The 32-year-old took charge of the Saints earlier this month following the dismissal of Will Still, just months after he was appointed.
He has so far overseen three wins from three, which has moved the Hampshire outfit up the Championship table.
Speculation now persists that the Saints could appoint Eckert as the permanent replacement to Still, particularly with no official decision made during the November international break, which would’ve been an ideal time to appoint a fresh face as successor.
Southampton’s sights are still set on a promotion battle this season, with the club aiming to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Romano has claimed that there are internal discussions at Southampton regarding Eckert becoming the new manager.
He believes that the young coach has a chance at being appointed as the permanent successor to Still, who was dismissed after just 13 league games in charge.
“There are internal discussions about this at the club and he has chances, as he’s doing a very good job,” said Romano, via GiveMeSport.
Eckert has no previous managerial experience in his career, with this being his first time overseeing a senior first team squad.
The 32-year-old’s first three games in charge as interim boss have all been victories, with the side earning all three points away to Charlton Athletic last weekend.
An emphatic 5-1 victory against the London outfit has moved the Saints up to 16th in the Championship table, eight points clear of the relegation zone and only four adrift of the play-offs.
Next up for Eckert’s side is a home clash against promotion rivals Leicester City on Tuesday evening in an 8pm kick-off, where Southampton could move into the top half of the table with a win.

Southampton elected to stick with Eckert through the November international break, which would’ve been a great time to bring in somebody if that was their plan, instead of doing so in the middle of this busy period.
Another win at the weekend only further strengthened his position at the club, particularly with how comfortable they earned all three points.
Three victories in a row makes a strong case for Eckert to remain in charge, and it seems inevitable he will be made the permanent manager.
However, it is still a massive risk to keep an interim coach around longer-term, especially one with so little experience, and Southampton could be making a big mistake.
