Five goals in two games and the feeling that the haul could have been even bigger.
Donyell Malen started the season with full force, leading Roma through the opening matchdays and immediately establishing himself as a key player in Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack.
Interviewed by reporters at the Gran Galà del Calcio in Milan, Malen described his current situation as follows: “I didn’t expect to start so well, but I’m very happy. I think it’s my best start yet.”
The present, however, already speaks of a new Roma and a Malen who has started out strong. The Dutchman doesn’t shy away when asked if he’s ready to take the team on his shoulders: “I hope I’m ready to carry Roma; we’re in a great moment.”
No proclamations, however, when the conversation turns to seasonal objectives. The approach is to focus solely on the next obstacle: “Game by game, then we’ll see.” Meanwhile, Malen has already sent a very clear signal: five goals in two games and a Roma team enjoying its golden moment.
