Manchester City have completed the signing of Argentina international goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from Marseille on a two-year contract.

The 34-year-old has agreed a deal that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until June 2028, with City paying around £1.7m for his services. He will wear the No.28 shirt and arrives as James Trafford’s replacement following the England goalkeeper’s move to Leeds.

Rulli returns to Manchester having previously spent the 2016/17 season with City, although he did not make a first-team appearance during that spell. He now comes back with a wealth of experience gained across Europe with the likes of Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, Ajax and Marseille.

The Argentine has eight international caps and was part of the squad that won the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa América.

He is perhaps best remembered in England for his role in Villarreal’s 2021 Europa League final victory over Manchester United.

Rulli is expected to provide experienced competition and cover for Gianluigi Donnarumma as Enzo Maresca’s squad takes shape for the new season.
