Man City’s Opportunity to Land Serhou Guirassy: A Perfect Fit Beside Erling Haaland?

According to TeamTalk, Manchester City could make a sensational move for Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy, whose release clause has reportedly dropped to €50 million (£44m). The report, citing German outlet Bild, reveals that only a handful of “elite clubs” can trigger this clause — including Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Guirassy’s contract situation is intriguing. Just a few months ago, he was available for €75m, but his buyout figure is set to fall significantly. For clubs with deep pockets and an eye for goals, this opens a tempting window. The striker, who earns a reported €181,000 per week, is said to be “comfortable” in Dortmund, yet his agent is “exploring the market” in search of new opportunities.

A Natural Solution to City’s Haaland Dependence

As TeamTalk noted, “Haaland has incredibly scored 11 of City’s 17 Premier League goals, which works out at a huge 64.7 per cent.” This statistic lays bare City’s current over-reliance on their Norwegian superstar. While Erling Haaland remains one of world football’s most formidable forwards, Pep Guardiola has long valued rotational depth in every position.

Guirassy could therefore be more than a squad addition; he could be a tactical release valve. A forward who “possesses deadly finishing and can link up play well,” as the article highlights, would ease pressure on Haaland while maintaining the team’s clinical edge. With 153 goals in 350 senior appearances, Guirassy’s track record demonstrates not only consistency but adaptability across European football.

Strategic Timing for a Key Signing

Timing is everything in football recruitment. With City again challenging Arsenal and Liverpool for domestic dominance, squad balance is essential. Guardiola’s system demands flexibility and intelligence from his strikers, and Guirassy offers both. At 29, he is in his prime years, experienced yet hungry for top-tier silverware.

There is also a financial argument to consider. At €50m, Guirassy represents a value proposition in today’s inflated market. City have spent significantly in other areas, and this fee, relative to his output, would fit within their sustainability goals.

Internal Competition and Marmoush’s Return

However, TeamTalk also points out that City “may already have their ideal Haaland backup,” following their £59m move for Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt. The Egyptian international has been sidelined through injury but offers versatility across the forward line. His return could influence City’s transfer decision, especially if he finds form quickly.

Still, competition breeds performance, and having both Marmoush and Guirassy would give Guardiola a wealth of attacking options unmatched across Europe. Even if Guirassy’s name does not feature on the Etihad’s transfer sheet this winter, the idea of pairing him with Haaland is undeniably exciting.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

From a Manchester City supporter’s perspective, this link feels both logical and enticing. The club’s attacking system relies on sharp movement, fast link play, and clinical finishing. Guirassy ticks all three boxes. His form in Germany has been consistently impressive, and he has the physicality to thrive in the Premier League.

The thought of a Haaland–Guirassy partnership is intriguing. While City rarely play with two central strikers, Guardiola could easily use Guirassy in a supporting role, particularly in matches that require rotation or when City need more direct options. For fans, it represents a possible end to sleepless nights about what happens if Haaland suffers an injury.

Marmoush’s arrival does raise questions, but fitness and adaptation take time. If City genuinely want to dominate across four competitions, they need more than one reliable striker. Guirassy’s €50m clause is a shrewd deal, especially when players with lesser records command far higher sums.

City fans have learned to trust Guardiola’s vision, yet few would complain if the club acted on this opportunity. A forward line including Haaland, Guirassy, Foden and Doku could be unstoppable, both domestically and in Europe.
