Manchester City midfielder Rodri has reportedly agreed teams with Barcelona, in a huge transfer twist after months of Real Madrid links.
The 30-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad and is not expected to extend. The captain of Spain’s World Cup-winning side, he has previously expressed the desire to return to his home country.
The Ballon D’Or-winning midfielder has been chased by Real Madrid for the majority of the summer. Speculation surrounding his potential move to the Bernabeu was already prevalent before the end of last season. However, in a twist, Rodri now looks more likely to join rivals Barcelona instead.
Spanish outlet Marca report that Rodri has reached a complete agreement with Barcelona. The midfielder’s preference is now a move to the Camp Nou over the Bernabeu.

Despite this, for the transfer to be completed a deal still needs to be agreed with City. Rodri has been the cornerstone to City’s success in recent seasons and the club do not want to lose him. Less than a week ago Enzo Maresca dismissed talk around the midfielder’s future as “just speculation”.
Rodri has not joined City’s pre-season preparations as he required back surgery after the World Cup. It is expected that he will be sidelined for the opening weeks of the season, wherever he may be at that time.
