Enzo Maresca without Jeremy Doku as title bid begins at the Etihad Stadium

The Belgian winger started the 3-0 Community Shield defeat by Arsenal in Cardiff last weekend but was forced off at half-time and replaced by Jack Grealish.

Doku picked up a calf injury which will keep him sidelined for at least two weeks.

It is bad news for Enzo Maresca, who will now have to rejig his front four to make up for the absence of a key player.

“At the moment, the only one [unavailable] is Jeremy Doku,” Maresca said at his pre-match press conference on Friday.

“Unfortunately in the last game at half-time he was complaining about a calf pain.

“Idea was that he would come off, the change was planned and at the moment, [he’s out for] 2-3 weeks, no more than that.”

Ruled out: Jeremy Doku will not play for Manchester City against Bournemouth

Erling Haaland will keep his place up front, though the make-up of the trio behind him will need to be rearranged.

Phil Foden started in the No10 role last time out, but will likely switch to the right wing against Bournemouth, in turn bumping Antoine Semenyo to the left. That creates space for Rayan Cherki to slot into the middle.

Elsewhere, few changes are expected, though Matheus Nunes has shaken off a muscle issue suffered in the warm-up in Cardiff and neither Savinho nor Omar Marmoush will feature as the pair close in on moves to Tottenham.

Gianluigi Donnarumma was broadly unconvincing against Arsenal last time out, but should keep his place behind an unchanged back four of Abdukodir Khusanov, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol and Nico O’Reilly.

If Nunes is fit enough, he could come straight in for Khusanov at right-back.

Mateo Kovacic appeared back to his best in the Community Shield, though Elliot Anderson will have a point to prove after he made a subdued debut.

It remains to be seen whether Grealish will be involved in any capacity as his City future remains uncertain. He impressed after replacing Doku last time out, but it is not yet clear whether he figures in Maresca’s plans for the season.
