Pep Guardiola has some tricky decisions to make for trip to west London
Pep Guardiola faces a few selection dilemmas as Manchester City meet Brentford in the Premier League today.
This afternoon’s trip to west London follows hot on the heels of Wednesday night’s frustrating Champions League draw with Monaco.
Brentford come into the match off the back of their most convincing performance under Keith Andrews to date - a comfortable 3-1 defeat of Manchester United.
City will hope to avoid suffering the same fate at the hands of the plucky Bees, but it will not be a straightforward team selection for Guardiola.
He is continuing to manage Rodri’s minutes as the latter recovers strength in an injured knee. The Spaniard completed 61 minutes against Monaco on Wednesday and returns to the starting lineup, but will not be likely to finish the full match.
Savinho was rested in Monaco, and returns in place of Jeremy Doku, while Oscar Bobb takes his place on the opposite flank.
The twin No10s of Phil Foden and Tijjani Reijnders have proven effective in recent weeks, and are reinstated.
Erling Haaland also extended his unbelievable scoring form in midweek, netting both of City’s efforts to take his record to 21 goals and assists in 10 appearances this term. With those numbers, he is simply undroppable.
Expect rotation in defence though. John Stones played at right-back against Monaco, and is replaced by Matheus Nunes. Centre-back pairing Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias both completed 90 minutes in Monaco and continue their partnership.
Rayan Cherki is a surprise name on the bench, while his namesake Rayan Ait-Nouri, along with Omar Marmoush and Abdukodir Khusanov, are still sidelined.
Man City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O’Reilly, Rodri, Reijnders, Bobb, Foden, Savinho, Haaland
Subs: Trafford, Stones, Ake, Kovacic, Cherki, Doku, Nico, Bernardo, Lewis
Injured: Cherki, Ait-Nouri, Marmoush, Khusanov
Time and date: 4.30pm BST today on Sunday October 5, 2025
