Manchester United and Aston Villa are among the clubs considering an approach to sign Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea.
Jackson is not a player that Chelsea are actively looking to offload but the arrival of Liam Delap from Ipswich and interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike could see proposals considered.
The Senegal international scored 10 goals in the Premier League last season and provided five assists, though Jackson has faced criticism on occasion of inconsistency in his finishing. Despite improvements last season, the 23-year-old underperformed in terms of XG for the second successive season.
Enzo Maresca was also critical of Jackson following a straight red card in the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle last month. Jackson will miss the opening fixture of next season’s Premier League as a result. He returned to the side with a goal in the 4-1 Europa Conference League final win over Spanish side Real Betis.
Manchester United and Aston Villa are now weighing up a potential market opportunity, while there’s also interest from Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid. According to a report by Chelsea journalist Simon Phillips, the quartet are all monitoring Jackson’s situation closely.
Manchester United want to bring in a forward and improve the physicality of their side, while Aston Villa are seeking competition for Ollie Watkins, following Jhon Duran’s exit for the Saudi Pro League in January.
Chelsea signed Jackson in a £32m deal from Villarreal in 2023. He has since scored 30 goals in 78 appearances across all competitions.
