Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye as Michael Carrick looks to add another versatile attacker before the transfer window closes. United want more competition for Amad on the right and are targeting someone capable of operating across several attacking positions, similar to Bryan Mbeumo.

Mbaye fits that profile and, at only 18, would also represent a signing with enormous long-term potential.

Crucially, the teenager is understood to be open to moving to the Premier League, putting United in a strong position if PSG become willing to negotiate.

Man United open direct talks to sign Mbaye

According to Football FanCast, Manchester United have held direct discussions with Mbaye’s representatives to establish his interest in an Old Trafford move and determine potential wage demands.

Mbaye wants to continue playing Champions League football, something United can offer this season.

He became PSG’s youngest-ever starter at just 16 years, six months and 23 days and has already made 41 senior appearances for the French champions.

United also saw his talent first-hand when Mbaye scored against them during their recent 1-1 pre-season friendly.

There has since been another encouraging development. FourFourTwo reported that Liverpool have cooled their pursuit after being quoted a significant overall price while simultaneously chasing Bradley Barcola. Mbaye is reportedly valued at around €40m-€50m.

Mbaye could be the perfect addition to United

This is the type of transfer United should seriously consider.

Carrick already has Amad and Mbeumo, so Mbaye would not need to arrive carrying immediate responsibility.

Instead, United could gradually develop him while benefiting from his speed, directness and ability to play on either flank.

PSG’s attacking depth could also help. Mbaye is competing with players including Ousmane Dembélé, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Désiré Doué and Barcola, which may make regular minutes difficult in Paris.

The price remains important. Spending close to €50m on an 18-year-old is a major gamble, particularly when United have other areas to strengthen.
