Manchester United approach their Premier League meeting with Brentford with renewed confidence after a spirited victory over Chelsea. Ruben Amorim’s side had to navigate the challenge of Casemiro’s red card for two bookable offences, yet still emerged with three points. Trevoh Chalobah’s late goal briefly threatened to undo their hard work, but it was United who celebrated at full time.
The only downside was Casemiro’s suspension, which rules him out of the trip to London. With no Carabao Cup fixture in midweek, Amorim has instead focused on preparing his squad and monitoring the progress of injured players, notably Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez.
Diogo Dalot’s situation remains unclear. The full back missed the Chelsea match after Amorim confirmed his absence during the pre-match press conference. Although details of the injury have not been widely shared, the manager indicated that Dalot’s availability for Brentford depends on how quickly he can resume training.
Should he prove his fitness in the next few days, Dalot could return as soon as Saturday. His presence would be a timely boost, given his importance in both defensive organisation and attacking transitions. United have relied heavily on Dalot’s versatility, and Amorim will be eager to have him back in contention.

Lisandro Martinez’s recovery is more encouraging. The Argentine defender, out since February with an ACL injury, has now resumed training on the grass at Carrington. His return has been long awaited, with Amorim acknowledging both the challenges and the significance of his progress.
“When you have that injury, you have that time where you recover a lot of things really hard, then there is the boring part where it looks like you don’t go to the next step,” Amorim said.
“We miss a lot Licha, especially in this moment, we miss his aggression in everything he does, we miss him.
“But he’s always there in every meeting. In training, he sometimes finishes his and stays to watch the training. We need Licha in this team.”
Martinez has become a central figure within the squad despite his absence. His leadership qualities and combative style are sorely missed, and his return will strengthen both the defence and the dressing room. United are not rushing him back, but signs point to a late 2025 return.
Potential return date: Late 2025
For Amorim, now in his second season at Old Trafford, the recovery of Dalot and Martinez could not come at a better time. The manager has worked to instil greater resilience and tactical flexibility in his squad, and these two players epitomise the qualities he values most.
Dalot’s energy on the flanks and Martinez’s aggression at the heart of defence are central to United’s balance. As the season gathers pace, their imminent returns will give Amorim greater depth to rotate and adapt, particularly with the fixture list set to intensify in the winter months.
Man United supporters will take encouragement from the signs of progress. With victories like the one over Chelsea reinforcing belief and key players nearing a comeback, the team appears well positioned to sustain momentum.
