Man United trigger £35m clause to land Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa after Ederson deal collapses | OneFootball

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for a fee in the region of £35m.

Michael Carrick's side have activated a release clause in Tielemans' contract at Villa Park, with the 29-year-old having agreed personal terms with the club.

Manchester United have moved for Tielemans after cancelling a deal to sign Ederson from Atalanta, due to concerns over the player's medial.

United agreed a £35m fee for the Brazilian in June, though the transfer was delayed after Ederson's call up to Brazil'sWorld Cup squad.

Having also reached an agreement to sign Andrey Santos from Chelsea, United are now finalising the transfer of Tielemans with a deal in place, according toFabrizio Romano.

Aston Villa did not want to sell the Belgium international and had offered Tielemans a new deal, in the hope to remove his release clause.

However, interest from Old Trafford has persuaded Tielemans to take on a new challenge after three seasons with Unai Emery's side.

He joined on a free transfer from Leicester City in 2023 and has made 134 appearances for the club.

His imminent exit is a massive blow to Aston Villa, with Amadou Onana set to miss the bulk of the upcoming campaign aftersustaining an ACL injury at the World Cup.

Villa are working on a deal to bring in Johan Manzambi from Freiburg to add to the club's midfield options.
