Thomas Tuchel has poured praise on Marcus Rashford while urging him to ‘work harder’ to reach his true potential.

Currently, the forward is enjoying a scintillating start to his tenure at Barcelona, where he’ll be spending the 2025/2026 campaign before a decision is made over whether he returns to Manchester United or, alternatively, they keep hold of him permanently.

As things stand, you’d imagine they’d opt for the latter.

In his first 10 games as a Barcelona player, Rashford has returned a hugely impressive three goals and five assists across all competitions.

He has three goal contributions in their opening two Champions League games alone, and has scored or assisted in each of his last five La Liga outings.

Such stellar efforts saw him rewarded with a call-up to the England squad for the second consecutive international break, during which he featured for 45 minutes in the Three Lions’ 3-0 win over Wales.

It’s certainly a positive sign that the 27-year-old is being utilised by Tuchel with the World Cup on the horizon, as Rashford will have his sights firmly set on being named in Tuchel’s squad for the tournament next year, having also represented his nation on the biggest stage in football throughout the 2022 WC.

However, the German head coach is keen to see more from the Carrington graduate before then.

When speaking directly on Rashford’s situation over the October break, Tuchel suggested he could well become ‘one of the best’ players in the world – but only Rashford can make that happen.

“He can be one of the best in the world because the finishing and the quality I see in training, with both legs and his head, he is explosive, he is fast, he is strong in the air, so for him there are no limits,” Tuchel said, as per Sky Sports.

“But the numbers don’t reach the potential. He needs to push himself with goal involvements. He knows that from me.

”I think he still has to make these decisions. He is still young enough to make these decisions, because otherwise he might be disappointed in 10 years with what he could have been and what he may have done.

“That is the headline for him, to keep pushing himself to the limit. And the limit for him is very, very high, maybe higher than it is for others.”
