Manchester United could end the January transfer window without signing a new striker, though Bayern Munich's Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting is on their list of targets should they bring in a forward, 90min understands.

90min reported last week Erik ten Hag would like to add another goalscorer to his ranks. However, United are prioritising outgoings during the winter window and it will be difficult for them to move aggressively in the market, at least unless Antony Martial departs.

The Red Devils had looked at and enquired about Timo Werner back in November, but they never formally followed up on that interest. Werner has instead joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan from RB Leipzig until the end of the season with an option to buy, but they did not necessarily ‘beat’ United to his signature despite appreciation of the Germany international coming from Old Trafford.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that another striker under consideration by United is Choupo-Moting, whose contract at Bayern Munich expires in the summer.

The 34-year-old has been sparingly used by head coach Thomas Tuchel following the marquee arrival of Harry Kane in summer. Choupo-Moting has played only 519 minutes across 14 matches for Bayern this term, scoring just two goals - but last season he scored 17 goals in all competitions.

Choupo-Moting is seen as a target who may be within United's economic limits, but there is nothing advanced regarding a deal at this stage.

Serhou Guirassy, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea but nursing a minor injury, is also liked by United. However, all indications suggest he is happy to stay at Stuttgart until the end of the season, despite his €17.5m (£15m) release clause.

In the long-term, a striker that has been mentioned internally at United is Jonathan David. The Canadian's contract at Lille is up in 2025 and the Ligue 1 club could be forced into a sale this summer.
