Manchester United’s hopes of sending Joshua Zirkzee to Juventus have been dealt a massive blow, with the Italians negotiating a move for another Premier League striker.

The Dutchman has been on the periphery since Michael Carrick’s appointment in January and was an unused substitute in the first two Premier League matchdays, even with Benjamin Sesko not fit enough to start.

At this stage, INEOS certainly won’t stand in the way of the striker who has by now understood that the technical staff considers him surplus to requirements.

Over the past few weeks, Zirkzee has been primarily linked to two clubs: Juventus and Fiorentina.

The Turin-based giants are longtime admirers of the player, dating back to his time at Bologna. On the other hand, the Viola have only recently surfaced on the scene, as they need a new forward to replace Como-bound Moise Kean.

But while Fiorentina were considered the frontrunners in recent days, BBC journalist Simon Stone confirmed that Zirkzee won’t be heading to Florence this summer, as the negotiations between the parties have completely collapsed, and that the Tuscan club has instead recruited Everton’s Beto.

Therefore, Man Utd’s best hope was to send the Dutchman to Juventus, who are also on the lookout for a new striker.

On Monday afternoon, Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Serie A giants have reached a full agreement with Atletico Madrid for Jonathan David’s transfer, stamping the deal with his trademark ‘Here We Go’.

While this should have been music to the ears of INEOS officials, Romano dropped another update, revealing that Juve have agreed personal terms with Nick Woltemade, and they are now trying to close a deal with Newcastle.

Man Utd & Joshua Zirkzee stuck with each other?

Unless Juventus miss out on Newcastle’s big German striker, they certainly won’t launch a late-summer attempt for Zirkzee, who now risks missing out on a transfer before Tuesday’s deadline.

This wouldn’t only be a blow to the Netherlands international, who could spend another four months on the bench, but also to Carrick, who was perhaps hoping to offload the former Bologna star and replace him with another striker he deems more suited to his system.

While it remains to be seen if a new destination could surface in the next 24 hours, Zirkzee’s stay shouldn’t be considered a travesty for United, as he remains a unique player in the squad with an unorthodox skill set and could prove very useful if given the chance to shine.
