Manchester United have reportedly adopted a more lenient stance on Joshua Zirkzee, who is hoping to leave the club in January.

The Dutchman has been starved of playing time this season, with Ruben Amorim identifying Benjamin Sesko as his ultimate choice for the centre-forward role.

Even when the Slovenian was dropped from the lineup, the Portuguese boss has opted to introduce Mason Mount as a No.10, with Matheus Cunha leading the line. To make matters worse for the Bologna star, he has been left on the bench as an unused substitute on several occasions.

Due to his increasingly limited playing time, Zirkzee has been pushing for a January exit in the hopes of putting his career back on the right track.

The Netherlands boss, Ronald Koeman, had also warned Zirkzee that his lack of minutes at Man Utd will cost him a place in the World Cup squad.

However, sources in the UK have been reiterating Amorim’s desire to keep the versatile striker at Carrington, especially since Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo will leave next month to participate in the African Cup of Nations.

Nevertheless, Il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) is now claiming that United have made a U-turn, and are now willing to loan out the 24-year-old, who ‘can’t wait to leave’ the club.

Should Man Utd part ways with Zirzkee in January

The Italian newspaper adds that the Red Devils won’t even include an obligation to buy, suggesting that INEOS still see a future for the player at Old Trafford.

In the meantime, Roma and Milan have emerged as the main suitors for Zirkzee. The two Serie A sides are involved in the title race that also includes Inter Milan and Napoli, but the Giallorossi and the Rossoneri have both been lacking firepower upfront.

As for United, Zirkzee’s departure would leave them with an increasingly thin attacking department. So, although the club is only playing once per week this season, depriving themselves of the Dutchman’s services could be ill-advised, unless they bring in a replacement.
