Manchester United are prepared to pay the release clause and commission to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport (today’s edition).
The Dutchman has been identified as the priority striker target by manager Erik ten Hag and the club are currently engaged in negotiations with his representative over a transfer.
It is now reported that they are prepared to pay his £34 million release clause as well as the agent commission worth £13m, but the 23-year-old has yet to make a final decision.
Bologna have handed an ultimatum to the former Bayern man. They want a definitive striker by the end of this week such that they can plan for next season with or without him.
The Serie A outfit have earmarked Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis as a potential replacement if Zirkzee decides to pursue a new challenge away from the club next term.
Zirkzee, who has been described as a ‘powerful‘ player by Bayern II manager Holger Seitz, had a progressive second year at Bologna with 12 goals and seven assists.
His statistics were not exemplary but he caught the eye with his superb work rate, high pressing and ability to create chances with his dribbling and pace on the counter-attack.
Zirkzee created 11 big chances in the Italian top-flight last term which was the fourth highest in the division. With his potential, he could become a prolific goalscorer in future.
United are more than willing to pay the £47m package (transfer fee plus commission) to prise him away, but it is left to be seen whether the striker is open to moving to another league.
The Dutchman may want stability in the prime phase of his career. He has the preference to join AC Milan, but the Rossoneri have failed to reach an agreement with his agent Kia Joorabchian.
Joorabchian also seems to be angling for a move to Old Trafford. In our view, Zirkzee could eventually give the green light with the opportunity to significantly increase his £18,600 weekly wages.
