Man Utd set aside £60m for Premier League star after Ornstein verifies ‘clear’ interest | OneFootball

Manchester United would reportedly be willing to shell out up to £60 million to prise Lewis Hall from Newcastle United this summer.

That’s according to talkSPORT, while David Ornstein has also verified the Red Devils’ interest in Hall.

However, the transfer expert’s update on Wednesday wasn’t the most exciting for United fans, as he suggested that a move for Hall this year is unlikely.

Newcastle have already reluctantly sanctioned the exits of key men Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali, with Bruno Guimaraes also on the verge of completing a shock switch to Arsenal.

To make matters more complicated, Eddie Howe stepped down from the managerial hot seat last week after five years at St. James’ Park, during which he returned their first domestic trophy in 70 years in the form of the League Cup.

Alas, the Magpies board will want to slam the door shut to prevent any additional major outgoings before next month’s deadline – especially to the likes of United.

What Ornstein is hearing about Hall

Reports have suggested that Hall himself is keen on a move elsewhere and is enticed by the prospect of representing the 20-time champions, but it does look as though he’ll be seeing out 2026/2027 in black and white.

The 21-year-old would’ve been the ideal successor to Luke Shaw, who turned 30 in July and is considered one of United’s most injury-prone players.

Weighing in on the speculation surrounding Hall, Ornstein said on The Athletic FC podcast yesterday: “I don’t expect [him] to be coming to Manchester United.

“There’s clearly some interest, but Newcastle will be determined to keep hold of him, probably even more so following the departure of Eddie Howe, and let’s see if they would even like to tie him down to a new contract.”
