Manchester United extended their scintillating unbeaten run via a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.

In doing so, the Red Devils also recorded their first victory over Spurs since October 2022, putting an end to an unwanted record against a notorious bogey opponent.

Michael Carrick opted against making any changes to his starting line-up ahead of kick-off.

Since taking the reins on January 13, four days before the Manchester derby, he has only made one alteration to his XI, and it came when he was forced into a tactical shuffle following Patrick Dorgu’s lengthy injury layoff.

It paved the way for Matheus Cunha, who has scored twice and assisted once under Carrick, to be restored to the side.

Today, United secured an added morale (and goal difference) boost by keeping a clean sheet. Senne Lammens was called into action to make only one save throughout the 90 minutes, thanks to his defenders putting in formidable shifts to keep the likes of Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons at bay.

Lisandro Martinez, for example, made two tackles, four clearances, one headed clearance, two interceptions, and seven recoveries, as per Fotmob.

He also won four ground duels and, in attack, dispatched 21 passes into the final third, as well as two accurate long balls.

Remarkably, it was confirmed post-match that the Argentine’s 103 passes completed are the most of any player in a Premier League match this campaign, as revealed by the league’s official X/Twitter account.

Martinez’s attacking and passing exploits are often what set him apart from other centre-halves, but the statistic really does highlight just how exceptional he is with the ball at his feet.
