Manchester United are on the verge of signing Ederson from Atalanta. Goal.com and Sky Sport Italia report a permanent deal worth about €45 million has been agreed between the clubs.

The Brazilian has been one of Serie A’s standout midfielders across four and a half seasons with Salernitana and Atalanta, and will leave Italian football on a permanent basis.

His Atalanta contract was due to run until 2027, making this summer the right moment for the Bergamo club to cash in.

Atletico Madrid had led much of the chase after agreeing personal terms, but they did not meet Atalanta’s valuation, allowing United to accelerate.

United’s return to the Champions League under manager Michael Carrick is understood to have been a decisive factor for both Atalanta and Ederson.

For Atalanta, the sale extends a productive trading era under the Percassi family. The fee represents a strong return on the €23 million paid to Salernitana in 2022.
