Manchester United are weighing up a move for Feyenoord defender David Hancko as they look to bolster their defensive ranks this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Red Devils want another left-back and a centre-back, and signing a left-sided defender capable of providing cover for Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw following their injury struggles last season makes plenty of sense.

Hancko doubles as both, operating at left-back and centre-back last term, but signing the 26-year-old may prove too expensive for someone likely to be a squad player.

The Slovakia international helped Feyenoord win the Dutch Cup last season having won the Eredivisie in 2022-23, and a move to the Premier League appears to appeal to him.

Hancko recently revealed that he has spoken with new Liverpool manager Arne Slot a few times since the end of last season, but he does not see himself reuniting with him at the Anfield club as they are not looking for a player in his position.

Man United are, and his performances at the ongoing European Championship have caught their eyes.

The Eredivisie star featured in all four games his country played, impressing in each before England dumped them out in the round of 16 after 120 minutes.

The Man United target ended last term with seven goals and three assists in 48 appearances, and having such a goal-scoring defender will be good for a Red Devils’ side in need of more goals in the final third having bagged 115 Premier League goals over the last two campaigns.

Hancko is very comfortable on the ball, with his passing and dribbling some of his key strengths, and he fits perfectly into the style of play of manager Erik ten Hag.

He will not be guaranteed a spot in the Man United starting XI should he move, which could deter him from accepting a deal from the Red Devils.
