Mancha Alviverde will pay at least R$ two million in compensation to the family of Cruzeiro fan José Victor Miranda, who was 30. He was killed by Palmeiras fans in an ambush at km 65 of the Fernão Dias federal highway in Mairiporã in October 2024.

According to Globo.com, the organised supporters' group of Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras has accepted civil responsibility for the damages arising from the ambush. The sum is provisional, sets a minimum, and may be increased by a future court ruling.

Cruzeiro supporters were returning from Paraná after a Campeonato Brasileiro match when they were attacked. A further 15 were injured, one bus was set alight and another was vandalised.

The attackers used sticks, stones, billiard balls, nails and fireworks to strike buses carrying members of Máfia Azul. Rival fans were assaulted.

One year on from the crime, Civil Police were still seeking 18 Palmeiras fans accused of taking part. A further 24 had already been arrested.

The groups have a long-standing rivalry linked to previous clashes.
