With Bernardo Silva set to leave Manchester City at the end of this season, signing one quality midfielder, possibly two, is a must for City this summer. Bernardo’s impending departure will leave a sizable hole in Manchester City’s midfield. There is no like-for-like replacement for the Manchester City captain. However, City can find a midfielder or two to replace Bernardo Silva’s energy and work rate, and also add the technical ability to cover what will be lost when Bernardo Silva departs City.
It isn’t uncommon knowledge that Nottingham Forest’s England international Elliot Anderson is City’s main midfield transfer target heading into this summer. The England international would bring immense quality in possession, energy to get up and down the the pitch, and overall quality to the Manchester City midfield. A new report has come out that indicates that City believe they have won the race to sign Elliot Anderson this summer. If true, that is huge news for City ahead of an important summer for the club.
Jeremy Cross has reported for The Mirror that Manchester City believe they have won the race to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest this summer. Furthermore, Cross reports that Elliot Anderson has made it known that City is his preferred destination this summer. This news will come as a blow for Manchester United, Chelsea, and Tottenham, who Cross reports also have an interest in signing the England international.
It is also reported by Jeremy Cross that Manchester City are keen to complete a deal to sign Elliot Anderson ahead of this summer’s World Cup. It is also reported by Cross that City are confident of completing a deal to sign Anderson for around £65 million.
Jeremy Cross’ new report that Manchester City believe they have won the race to sign Elliot Anderson doesn’t come as a major surprise. It has seemed for months now that Anderson will eventually land at the Etihad during this summer’s transfer window. Whether or not that is before or after this summer’s World Cup remains to be seen. As of right now, it seems that City will win the race to sign one of the most coveted midfielders in the Premier League.
Looking at the bigger picture, Jeremy Cross’ report is good news for City. With Bernardo Silva in the final stages of his City career, Manchester City cannot afford to waste any time in their bid to sign Elliot Anderson. The quicker City can complete a deal with Nottingham Forest, the better. City will want to have a player signed quickly to help fill the hole that Bernardo Silva’s departure will create.
On top of that, Mateo Kovacic could potentially depart Manchester City this summer, and City won’t want to be caught out in the transfer market rushing to find midfielders. It now looks like City believe they will get their man in Elliot Anderson, which is great news ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
Manchester City believe they have won the race to sign Elliot Anderson, as Jeremy Cross has reported. If Cross’ report is accurate, City appear to have landed the first major blow ahead of this summer’s transfer window. Today’s news also shows that Manchester City aren’t wasting any time getting to work to rebuild their midfield this summer.
