Officials at Manchester City are reportedly closing in on a brand new agreement with first-team star playmaker Phil Foden.

Foden’s importance to City has grown season upon season, evolving from academy prodigy to one of Europe’s standout attacking midfielders, while his influence has reached new heights in the ongoing season off the back of a difficult individual and collective campaign.

Now delivering decisive contributions across multiple competitions and establishing himself as a central figure in Pep Guardiola’s long-term vision, Foden and City continue preparing for sustained success under the Catalan, while securing the future of their biggest homegrown talent has become a major priority behind the scenes.

The club have been pressing ahead with a wider programme of contract renewals involving several senior players, as the landscape of European football shifts and rival clubs closely monitor potential opportunities.

Etihad Stadium officials, including sporting director Hugo Viana, are keen to protect the core of their squad early rather than risk uncertainty later in the season. Foden sits at the very top of that list, with internal belief that he will remain the face of City’s project for years to come.

There is also a strong desire from both the player and the club to continue their long-standing partnership, with Phil Foden having never shown interest in pushing for a move away, and figures inside the club seeing him as the natural leader of the next generation.

Now, according to the information of Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Manchester City are now edging closer to agreeing a ‘huge’ new contractual agreement with Phil Foden, having planned to step up talks with a number of their key players.

Should negotiations progress as anticipated, Manchester City may announce the new contract before the end of the year, further reinforcing their stability heading into the second half of the campaign.

A salary uplift in line with his status is expected for the Stockport-born creator, who provided a cool assist for Eberechi Eze upon his return to England duties this week, along with extended terms that push his deal well into the next cycle of Pep Guardiola’s tenure.

Looking ahead, securing Phil Foden’s future would allow Manchester City to turn full attention to other contract priorities within the squad, as well as strengthening key areas in upcoming transfer windows.
